Beable Life-Ready Literacy Platform

New reading program launches at BGCSJC!

Beable Life-Ready Literacy Platform

October 2, 2023

Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County (BGCSJC) is implementing the Beable Life-Ready Literacy platform to accelerate literacy for its Club kids who are in grade levels second grade and older. The organization serves more than 3,000 students annually across 27 sites in St. Joseph County, White County, and Fulton County.

“Beable gives us a powerful, technologically advanced tool to empower young people to achieve their full potential,” said Jacqueline Kronk, BGCSJC CEO. “With Beable, learning can continue outside of school, so our kids can use the time they spend in Club to build their reading skills on the path to future readiness.”

Beable cultivates the whole child by intertwining literacy acceleration, career exploration, personal growth, and academic rigor in one solution. It provides content at each learner’s reading level to assure success for all. By combining literacy acceleration and personalized career exploration, Beable has been proven to drive literacy gains by five times expected annual growth.

“We are working diligently to complement the great work being done in schools by providing additional interventions and enrichment,” said Kronk. “We know that 90% of our kids are below grade level proficiency due to pandemic learning loss, and we need to act now to provide critical learning recovery. Beable offers this in a really fun and engaging way, through gamification and letting kids create their own avatars.”

Through Beable, students will develop self-awareness of their strengths and interests, and then connect their interests to relevant job opportunities. This is the greatest predictor of long-term job satisfaction and success. Club members will also develop the essential employability skills they need to succeed as they come to understand their careers of choice more deeply.

Since 1974, Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County has enabled and inspired young people, especially those who need Clubs most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. BGCSJC serves more than 3,000 young people annually at 27 Club sites across St. Joseph County, White County, and Fulton County and has established before and after care and summer programs in partnership with area school districts.
